#40 Returning to Our Roots: The case for a decentralized legal future with Mitch Kowalski

Today's guest is Mitch Kowalski, a lawyer, visiting professor at the University of Calgary faculty of law, author, speaker, and co-host of the Podcast series “Pardon My Objection”, a show dedicated to exploring legal innovation and the future of law.

As you will hear, Mitch is a voice for change in the legal profession. Our conversation covers many topics including:

  • Why lawyers need to base their pricing on value to the client, rather than how many hours they put in;

  • The need for regulation reform including implementing a national regulator for all common law provinces; and

  • The case for a more decentralized legal profession (firms not regulators), and why lawyers need to humble themselves in order to usher in some of the change we so desperately need.

Mitch pulls no punches when it comes the difficult or controversial topics, and getting this unadulterated perspective is one of the reasons we love him as a guest.

If you haven't already, check out Mitch's podcast and pick up his fantastic books titled Avoiding Extinction, and The Great Legal Reformation, links included below.
